Ratch & Deb's Pizza is a neighborhood joint with some of the best pizza. The sausauge is huge and possibly hand rolled. I've been in the pub a few times (and delivered others) and never ordered an old fashioned, so this was long time coming.
The corner street bar is full of Packers paraphernalia, it is so incredibly Wisconsin in this joint, so I expected them to make a damn good old fashioned. I bellied up to the bar, ordered my pizza to go and then asked for a brandy old fashioned sour with olives. After entering my order, the bartender grabbed a glass and added a shake of loose sugar, a couple of dashes of bitters, 2 metal bar shots of Aristocratic brandy and a spray of sour. Then with a long bar spoon, she stirred vigorously. Added on top was ice, another small splash of sour and then the olives.
The drink was almost perfect. Slightly watery. Not sure if it's the soda that was flat or if the liquor was watered down. Still quite flavorful and packed a punch. See what I did there? I would have preferred a little more bitters. The drink was quite expensive at $4.25.
Midway through the drink I found a bug, fruit fly? Tainted my experience. With the price of the drink and the bug, I feel obligated to knock my rating down. Otherwise, I do feel like the rest of the joint was quite clean, service was nice, I have never had an issue with the food, just wasn't the perfect drink experience.
